In my defense we've had a busy month. We've had visitors, doctor appointments, preschool hunts, and a trip to visit my parents.
One by one friends from Murphy have taken pity on me and made Spring, TX their vacation destination. It has made our separation from Murphy a little more tolerable. The kids really enjoyed having playmates, and I have enjoyed the late night chats and one quick lunch that should have been much longer (thank you Kristy.)
Christian had his first pool related ear infection that lasted almost 2 weeks. I have never missed someone as much as I missed our pediatrician Dr. Lin. The docs here just don't cut it. Our new doctor can't remember who we are and prescribed the wrong medication for Christian and then argued with me that she didn't make that mistake. Needless to say I'm searching for a new pediatrician.
I also took Christian to an ophthalmologist to have his eyes checked. He's slightly far-sighted, but not enough for glasses. They had to dilate his eyes so they gave him a disposable pair of gigantic glasses to wear home. Think old lady blue blockers. To make it fair they gave a pair to Alexander too. Must have been quite comfortable because Alexander the non-napper fell asleep on the way home wearing them. In desperation I've tried to get him to wear them from 2pm until about 4:30pm every day, but that kid just won't nap!
In between the incompetent pedi and the eye doc I squeezed in a mammogram for myself (no pun intended.) I got a good report. Phew.
Now that I know the area better, I've identified three possible preschools for the kids. After visiting them, one stood out as far superior. They have two teachers in the room at all times and one floater. There is also a playground teacher that organizes experiments and games for the kids that don't want to run and jump. The classrooms were bright, cheery, and literature enriched. They evaluate each child and create lessons plans around those evaluations. And my favorite, they have theme months when they bring in a petting zoo and have snow blown on the playground! Perfect! So perfect in fact that we are #14 and #15 on the waiting list. Despite being a church run school, Murray says we don't have a prayer. I even spoke with the director and told her how cute and smart my boys were and that she would love them. She was moved, but not 13 places. So we signed up for our 2nd choice which is a nice clean place and I really liked the director. No snow though.
This week the kids and I flew to North Carolina to visit my parents. It was the first time I traveled alone with the kids. Those of you that know my travel history will appreciate how daring that was of me. I am happy to report all went well! Had a couple of rude flight attendants and three poop diaper changes at the airport, but the kids were well behaved and no one threw up, screamed for 4 hours straight, ran a high fever, dropped luggage on their foot, got into a loud argument with a TSA agent, damaged the uninsured rental car, had a violent reaction to sea water/sand/sunscreen, or had their camera and underwear stolen. Yes, all things that happened the last two times we flew.
In NC we took the kids to a petting aquarium, which is exactly what you think...an aquarium where you pet the sea creatures. The kids handled turtles and crabs and were almost brave enough to pet the sting rays. It was a kid friendly set up with low tanks so the kids could easily stand and reach in. So easy in fact that Christian stuck his face in the water and blew bubbles. Thank you swim lessons.
So it's already July 26, but our busy month is not over. We are going to the circus tomorrow night, the kids have a dental appointment Tuesday, and we have two more Murphy visits this week. A busy month, but a good one.
